Novel HuBiogel™ Platform Technology Fuels Expectations

Expanding Markets in Predictive and Personalized Medicine Fuels Expectations by VIVO Biosciences for Novel HuBiogel™ Platform Technology in 2015

Summary: VIVO Biosciences announces validation of their new platform technology, based on demonstrating success in commercial applications in several medical and scientific fields. As HuBiogel™ enters multiple markets, VIVO Biosciences projects an exponential increase in revenue.

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – November 17, 2014 VIVO Biosciences’ HuBiogel™ is a revolutionary technology that creates fully-human three-dimensional (3D) tissue. The HuBiogel™ natural biomatrix system allows human cells to survive, organize and function outside of the body. This novel, patented HuBiogel™ platform supports multicellular growth, thus providing tissue-like models that translate to important and significant biologic and genomic endpoints. Therefore, HuBiogel™ has the potential to:

  1. Save animal testing in new drug development
  2. Allow a patient’s own cancer cells to determine the optimal treatment for their cancer, and
  3. Allow a burn patient’s skin to be regrown and repaired

Unlike synthetic or animal-derived alternatives, HuBiogel provides a more physiological ex vivo system, with substantial time and cost savings. Dr. Raj Singh, President and CEO of VIVO Biosciences, describes the technology as “…a unique platform that is fully human, so it replicates human tissue architecture and biology, which yields results similar to in vivo studies, and will allow for substantial progress to be made in personalizing medicine to an individual’s particular body or their genetic profile.” VIVO Biosciences’ innovative HuBiogel™ platform technology has the potential to impact several areas of medical science:

Predictive Drug Screening Studies: The platform can be utilized as a screening assay in real-time, which allows for precise analysis of drug toxicity and sensitivity, unlike current 2D cell-based models, which do not replicate tissue biology or drug efficacy. This will facilitate finding safer drugs, faster, and help the biopharmaceutical industry reduce their use of animals in drug testing.

Personalized Medicine and Clinical Research: Novel micro-tissue models can be built from a patient’s own diseased cells, e.g., creating ‘mini cancer tumors’ that are identical to the patient’s tumor, allowing for better drug response and treatment evaluation. Additionally, patient-derived tissue models are useful in accelerating timelines for personalized clinical research.

Regenerative Medicine: Unlike other biomatrix systems, the HuBiogel™ platform mimics a natural, 3D “micro”-environment. This allows for the delivery, cultivation and differentiation of the patient’s cells to the point of need. The human cell tissue or skin applications include helping to restore the heart after a heart attack, helping the brain after a brain injury, and replacing the skin after a major burn, among other applications.

The novel HuBiogel™ technology has been part of an evaluation by knowledge experts at One Million Solutions in Health’s Technology Evaluation Consortium™ (TEC), which has helped to define VIVO Biosciences’ technology as an advancement from current techniques. HuBiogel™ was selected by TEC industry experts for a non-competitive collaboration to undergo the evaluation of technical applicability and marketability.

Projections of current development and validation efforts of HuBiogel™ indicate VIVO Biosciences will experience an exponential increase in revenue as we move into 2015.

To help you consider how the HuBiogel™ technology will fit into your program, One Million Solutions in Health is recruiting additional members to participate in the Technology Evaluation Consortium on a free, trial basis. VIVO Biosciences is looking for additional partners to collaborate with them, and other major biopharmaceutical companies, in further validating the HuBiogel™ platform technology in product development and commercialization during this exciting growth phase.

“This is a unique opportunity for additional industry, academic or government organizations to participation in this validation process, which is being implemented during a time of major change in healthcare and life sciences. The Technology Evaluation Consortium, in studying the HuBiogel™ technology, is at the cross-roads of considering biological and genetic science to change the course of many diseases,” said Dawn Van Dam, President & CEO of One Million Solutions in Health, who operates this one-of-a-kind consortium.

About VIVO Biosciences

VIVO Biosciences, an early-stage biotech company founded in 2004, has developed new ‘fully-human’ ex vivo bioassay platforms for preclinical, drug discovery, clinical research, personalized medicine and regenerative medicine. The company is built on the novel, patented HuBiogel™ technology, which emulates the biology of normal and diseased tissues. This high-value technology is offered worldwide to academic, commercial and government institutions.

About One Million Solutions in Health

One Million Solutions in Health is a non-profit organization whose goal is to shape healthcare by sharing solutions.  We Connect, Learn + Share, Innovate and Collaborate to improve health care delivery, accelerate life sciences research and share patient and consumer-focused ideas and solutions.

About the Technology Evaluation Consortium

The Technology Evaluation Consortium™ (TEC) brings together life science companies, academics and relevant government organizations, along with industry vendors and/or technology transfer opportunities, to evaluate and validate new technologies in a non-competitive environment. This collaborative model empowers technology providers and end-users to collectively assess a number of technologies in a cost-effective manner, producing a depth and breadth of results that no company can achieve alone.
